What should be the goal of Slate?
There are two stages, Creation phase
and Live presentation
, and two types of users, translators and speakers (or presenters). Do we want to build tools for both stages and types of users or do we want to focus on a specific problem?
Translator workflow
Creation phase
⇒ copy the speaker provided notes into a document, translate it using a tool like DeepL. Then go through the translation side by side with the speaker notes and and improve the machine translated text.Live presentation
⇒ follow the speaker notes and translate, either in turns (both speaking to the audience at the front of the venue) or simultaneously through a broadcast system.Speaker workflow
Creation phase
⇒ develop the presentation. This might happen in many different applications or even offline (pen & paper, whiteboard).Live presentation
⇒ either by following slides, an outline, or the notes verbatim. Again there’s a wide range of applications and mediums used: paper, slides app presenter mode, on a tablet or a laptop, and even some speakers prefer to have no aid during the presentation.
